The project

The forests of Soria, inside the tourist office

A mushroom tourism experience in virtual reality

Filmed in 360º with real footage of Soria’s forests

Ten headsets installed across the tourism centres

The process

How we approached this project

Phase 01

Objective

Bring mushroom tourism to Soria’s visitors without their having to head into the woods. The idea, in the words of Tourism Councillor Yolanda Santos, is to «create the need» to go and see the forest in person.

Phase 02

The opportunity

The mushroom season is short and depends on the weather. A 360º experience can show the beech and pine woods at their best on any day of the year, and explain along the way how to forage without damaging the habitat, which is hard to get across in a leaflet.

Phase 04

The solution

A virtual mushroom trail of some seven to eight minutes, using real footage of Soria’s forests, running on ten virtual reality headsets installed at the city’s tourism centres, El Fielato and the Tourist Office.

Phase 03

The work

The route combines the 360º film with profiles of the main species — king oyster, black trumpet and others — giving habitat, season and edibility, plus a section on good practice for foraging and looking after the habitat. The project sits within Mycotour, funded by European Next Generation money, which Soria shares with Vic, Ávila, Teruel and other partners.
