The story of a news item in virtual reality for El País
For its 40th anniversary, El País wanted to show everything that happens between an event taking place and the newspaper reaching the reader.
Recreate in virtual reality and real 360º video every stage of a news story, from the source of the information to its arrival in readers' hands.
A newspaper's work is taken for granted because it is never seen. Walking through it from the inside, in the order it happens, gives every link in the chain its value.
A 360º piece that runs through the newsroom, the hand-off to production, the presses at work and distribution, with 3D modelling and texturing for the details the camera cannot reach.
It called for a thorough study of the premises, with 360º filming in several locations, including industrial spaces and outdoors. Post-production linked the sequences and resolved lighting, music, sound effects and professional voice-over in several languages.
The piece is published as 360º video on the usual platforms and was shown in headsets during El País's 40th anniversary celebration: a complete journey that gives due value to the work behind every news story.
